Child baptisms

At St Paul’s Church we love helping families celebrate their children. Your child is precious to you and precious to God and we mark this by offering Baptism services (also known as a Christening) and Thanksgiving services.

Baptism

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God. In the service the child is signed with a cross, reminding us of the new life we have through Jesus’ death and resurrection, and water is poured on their head, symbolising how Jesus washes us clean. In the service, the parents and godparents make promises and declare the Christian faith.

If you would like your child baptised, consider who would be good godparents. Godparents are to have been baptised themselves, although they can be baptised at the same service at which they act as a godparent.

If you would like to know more you can find helpful FAQs here.

We tend to hold Baptism services at 12.30pm on Sundays and we run a baptism preparation session for parents and godparents at a pre-arranged time leading up to the Baptism service. Please contact us if you would like to look into getting your child baptised.

Thanksgiving Service

A Thanksgiving Service provides a special occasion where you can celebrate the gift of your child with your friends and family. In the service we ask for God’s blessing and pray for your baby.

The birth or adoption of a child is a cause for great celebration. Many people are overcome by a sense of awe at the creation of new life and want to express their thanks to God. This service provides an opportunity for the family and friends to give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child and to pray for family life.

Please contact us if you would like to look into having a Thanksgiving Service for your child.
